How about a Home Depot cabinet knob?  Thread the wooden knob (I swear I've
seen 'em in Red) onto the threaded shaft to form the threads; unscrew the
knob then coat the threads with grease.  Put a dab of Elmer's wood glue
into the threaded hole in the knob (to toughen the wood fibers) then thread
it on. (The grease will allow disassembly later.)

Hey, its not Concours but it would be good enough to work for a vehicle
inspection.
