Mind you, the disclaimer on this article is that it will apply to other
models besides the TR4.
I used it for my Spit. I would a few of the following tips based on my
experience:
(KEEP IN MIND - MY SPIT IS A 1977 and these might not apply to the 1970)
- the temperature was around 80degF and I did NOT put the top in the
sun.
I did keep the top warm as I fitted it to the frame, though. The fit
is better for it.
- I used chalk to mark the front edge of the vinyl with the top up, but
not latched down.
This allows the space equal to the length of the bars that protrude
into the top of the windshield jam
to act as the play, which is just enough for the top to be tight when
it is in fact latched.
- I prefered to use the metal snaps versus the plastic, which in my case
broke too often.
- Don't forget to apply adhesive the retaining bar in the back and to
the front of the frame to prevent leaks.
- Also don't forget the 3 rubber cushions/seals for the rear where the
rivets are. They keep the rivets from scratching the paint.
