My cars range from 76 to 79. They each have a plastic tube coming out of the
top of the tank, running down the left side, connecting to a filter, then
going down through the floor. If your leak is by the suspension, then I'd
suspect the lower hose, outside the trunk. If that's the case, remove the
rear panel in the trunk, disconnect the filter and plug the hose there, and
replace accordingly. The problem is most likely to be the plastic hose that
connects between the filter, and the metal fuel line. This may also be a
good opportunity to replace the filter, I expect some owners did not know it
was there, perhaps your own P.O. as well.
Good luck

Nick

Yes. Remove the upholstry in the trunk. Its held in with several
screws. I seem to recall the trunk light being attached to it
as well. The fuel line goes to the top of the tank and you can
disconnect it there (if I remember right you have a late model spit
like mine. The earlier ones might be different)

I would suspect the the rubber hose that connects to the steel
line has given up. When I upgraded my lines for EFI, I found that
the plastic and steel lines were in good shape, and the rubber
was cracked and brittle.

PS: I found mine had a plastic fuel filter in the line between the tank
and the bottom of the trunk. Is this the standard location ?
