Good day fellow spitters,
Finally got my new used seats bolted down in the dark last night.
A particularly severe case of shipwrights found me power wire
brushing the rust off the floor at about 6pm, but then sanity set in
and I realized I needed at least one seat to get to work in the morning,
so I put off painting the floor till next weekend. There's some pitting,
but fortunately nothing that comes close to going through.
The story of how I found these seats is sort of funny. I was out
getting coffee, and when I came back to my car there was a note
under the wiper 'Are you interested in trading your spitfire for a Fiat
X/9 ?' Now I've never been particularly fond of "Fix it again Tony",
but I called the guy up anyway. We ended up driving each others cars
around the block, and both deciding we didn't really want to trade
(He wanted a car that hadn't been bastardized with a jap drive train,
and quite frankly, I think the X/9 is ugly, and thought the italian tranny
was kind of funky.) Anyway he had a number of spits in the past and had
gotten rid of all his spit parts except for a couple of seats. One of
these was in his living room in front of a sega console with a custom
wheel and pedals. If you like to play the brain rot games (as I do)
this is the way ;-). He offered me the pair (of seats) for 60 bucks, and
shortly after that I was the owner of the only 4 seater spit in town.
If anyone out there has a daily drivable spit in the norcal area
that you might want to trade for a decent X/9, I'd be happy to hook you
up.
I also have two adjustable headrest style seats in poor
condition which I would sell cheap or better yet, trade for other bits.
The frames are good, the rails are rusted but possibly usable. The foams
have mostly disintegrated, and the vinyl (light brown) has come
undone at some of the corners. Cushions are in a similar state.
I can't imagine it being worth it to ship these things anywhere,
but if someone in range of the Santa Cruz, CA area wants 'em, drop me
a line.

Trivia: the new seats are black with fixed head rests. Anyone
know what era spit they're from ? (The only pictures I saw in VB
were either adjustable or no head rest at all) Other than the head
rest and condition, they're similar to my old brown ones, with
a lever to recline, another to flip the whole seat forward, and
sliding rails on the bottom.
