A few months back I went the cheap route.=C2=A0 I bought the $60 model from=
 Harbor Freight.=C2=A0 I don't need one but I was just curious.=C2=A0 Being=
 an EE nerd I was curious to see the charging voltage and currents on my Io=
niq6.=C2=A0 This thing and the Android App associated with it were totally =
useless.=C2=A0 It gave me less information than I could get off of the inst=
rument panel and the Blue Link phone app.=C2=A0 And that is terribly limite=
d.=C2=A0 Hyundai decided to really dumb down the HMI on this thing.
I plugged it into the wife's CRV and during the scan it flagged several iss=
ues and caused the dash to light up like it was Christmas time even though =
the car had no issues and totally reset itself after a switch-off.
So, total waste of money.
On the other hand, Tuner Studio tells me everything I want to know what my =
Mega Squirt is doing, and then some.

I've been using an OBDLink LX for a while, a bright green little thing=20
that plugs into the OBD port on the vehicle.=C2=A0 And it communicates with=
=20
the OBDLink app on my android phone via bluetooth.=C2=A0 Works pretty well,=
=20
reads/clears DTC codes, can display real time info like water temp, rpm,=20
speed, battery voltage, etc.=C2=A0 Also has accelerometers, though I don't=
=20
think I have ever checked those while driving my car.=C2=A0 Can't remember=
=20
how much it cost or how long ago I bought it.=C2=A0 I am sure a web search =
on=20
OBDLink LX will provide current pricing.=C2=A0 The company also offers an M=
X=20
model, which has more features, and a price tag that reflects the extra=20
features.

But about a week ago I had ordered an iCarSoft LR 4.0 scanner for just=20
over $200 that has Jaguar/Land Rover specific software.=C2=A0 Pretty slick,=
 I=20
got it because of the Jaguar XK I bought last year.=C2=A0 It will read 6=20
digit DTCs, whereas the OBDLink only reads the basic 4 digit codes.=C2=A0 I=
=20
haven't used it much yet, probably overkill for most people.=C2=A0 So I am=
=20
not yet sure if it is the greatest thing ever or a total waste of money.

I would stay away from FIXD and really cheap ones, too basic.=C2=A0 I do ha=
ve=20
a couple of handheld stand alone scanners I bought years ago, haven't=20
used them since getting the bluetooth plug in unit.
