I used to have an old David Bradley 2-wheel tractor with a sickle bar
mower, whih would be good for that task, as well as satisfying one's
needs for tinkering on old machinery.

You might be able to find something like that cheap, if you're so
inclined. Otherwise, get someone to bush hog it twice a year.
