First thing is to make sure all electrical connections in the battery to starter circuit are 100%. Don't assume they are OK because they look good and feel tight - remove, clean & resecure each one. This includes any ground connections - if there is a braided strap around the engine mounts for example.

With the new battrey hooked up the lights work but the starter turns a couple of cranks and then the solinoid just clicks.
