[Shop-talk] Repairing a clasp--could be shop-related

I'm thinking it'd be easier to replace the whole clasp - would a "regular" 
carabineer work? Maybe paint it antique bronze? (Rustoleum sells a bronze 
colored hammer-finish paint.)
