Thanks to all who replied.  I'm still shaking my head.  But I think the
possibilities are covered.  The mug did come out of the freezer
so it is possible that changed the rootbeer.  I had wondered if
carbonization was a factor.

I'll go back next week and see if I can reproduce the result.
If the ice sinks in the frosted mug, I'll get another in the
standard paper cup.

Uh oh, I'm starting to see all the combinations...
