In addition to the previous comments, I'd suggest using "antenna wire" aka
"twin-lead". That may be what you have already, but it might not.

Ordinary hook-up wire works reasonably well as a local antenna element, but
not as the feed line to an antenna. And using coaxial cable almost requires
an amplifier at the antenna, to combat the signal loss in the cable.
