I wired my compressor (also 230V 30A) using an L6-30R twist lock
receptacle and plug.

For wire, I went to an electrical supply house and bought flexible
rubber coated 10/3 to run between the compressor and the plug (BTW,
the reason I used 10/3 instead of 10/2 was that there is no separate
ground wire in this type of cable- one of the 3 conductor wires is
meant to be used as ground).  I used regular 10/2 between the subpanel
and the outlet.
