from what i read on the charts at different stainless dealers... a
'standard' stainless bolt from 1/4" up to 5/8" made from 18-8 stainless
(steel alloy w/ 17-19% chrome and 8-13% nickel) is rated 80-90K psi min
yield and 100-125K psi min tensile which is consistent with a grade 5
carbon bolt

3/4-1" SS drops to 45-70K min yield and 100K tensile so even though a SS
bolt isn't "graded" as No. 5 it has about the same
characteristics/ratings... this is according to charts on the
'boltdepot.com" site.

so that might be where the 'grade 5 stainless' idea came from ???
