I've done this.  Here are my tips.

Yes, it can be charged from the tow vehicle, use a switched circuit to
do the charging.  I can't tell you about the 4 wire terminal,  my
vehicle uses the LARGE round plug, (7-8 wires?  Plenty there to find
one to use for charging).

If the trailer will be sitting for extended periods you need to
maintain the battery charge, or use a RV battery.
