I think that the telescoping sets are really hard to use repeatably,
especially when trying to do measurements to a tenth (0.0001"). You
might want to borrow a set and see - or buy a cheap set and
see how well you do with them.
I found used cylinder bore gauges on ebay, including an old Starret,
for really good prices ... and am much happier using that. It lets
me see the out-of-roundness very directly.
