Following on from the discussion on impact wrenches I'd like to back up all
the good reports on the IR2131. Great tool for output and lightness. Unless
you're looking to change wheels on Cat 657 motor scrapers it has to be
capable of tackling any of the routine tasks. Before investing in a 3/4
inch gun (hevvee...) a teebar with an extension tube will crack most nuts
and the 2131 will spin them off.
We have to change many wheels on site remote from an air supply and have
found the Dewalt DW290 240v wrench to be very useful. Started with a 12v
Snapon gun but the Dewalt is much better, it doesn't get tired after 4
wheels, and will run off a 900w generator all day (Honda EU10i-
beautiful...) Working in the shop it's interesting to see how much the
Dewalt gets used - instant availability wthout needing to wait for the
compressor to build up steam when it's down.
Moving on from impact wrenches has anyone come across an electric ratchet?
The air ratchet is invaluable if you have an air supply but an electric one
would be great for site use. I know that a petrol compressor would be one
way but a 12kg Honda generator v a 95kg compressor is no contest. A Google
search hasn't revealed anything. Maybe it's because a ratchet spends a lot
of its time stalled and so it's just not a possibility. Anyone who's had to
change the blades on a 10 foot rotary cultivator will appreciate why it
would be useful.
