I have some of the anti-heat compound, I use it for MIG
welding occasionally. It does work, you can spread it around
a weld and prevent it from say, cooking a body gasket or
melting off a decal or something.
It's not cheap though, but it can be used a few times before
it becomes disgusting.

I've never used one, but all the reading I've seen on
the list seem to say they don't really work.
Maybe if you've never seen MIG welding you might say
"I guess this works" but MIG welding really is pretty
slick for this kind of job.
I have the Lincoln 110v model. It seems to work great. It
is the model with the four heat settings rather than
infinite, but I've never really found this to be a
problem. Maybe I'm just adapting my technique for the
heat setting, but it seems fine.
