I've built two benches into the structure of the garage - basically, frame
two sides of the top by lag bolting to the studs, and support the
remaining corner on a 4x4 or bigger. Vise goes over the 4x4.

An important trick I learned from Bob Hoover is to bolt the 4x4
to the ground. You want to make the leg just a hair short, cut some
angle iron as anchoring brackets. Level the benchtop, clamp everything
together, drill the post.

Now, mix up some Bondo and undo the brackets. Fill the gap under the
post with Bondo, use some wax paper to finish the Bondo edges, bolt
everything up. Wait for the Bondo to harden, remove wax paper.

Now your bench and vise have a solid connection to the garage and floor,
and won't bounce and vibrate when you pound on it.
