Judging by the requirements of a "certified"installation, as well as my own
experience, you should have the following:

Uncombustible surface under the stove (duh). Tile, stone, sheet metal, pavers.
A 1" airspace between this surface and the top of the shelves.
Metal heat shield under the stove, about 1" from the bottom of the firebox.
The stove's legs probably hold the firebox about 9 or 10" away from the "floor"

I wouldn't be comfortable with less. The metal heat shield and the
uncombustible surface with the air space are pretty much required to put the
stove anywhere closer than 24" from a combustible surface.
