Count me as another vote for Optima.

On early MR2s, the battery is right above the shift linkage. Under hard
braking (racing pads, R1s, rare dry day in Seattle) acid would actually
slosh out of the caps of a normal battery and onto the shift linkage. It
never ate through, but it was a pain having to sprinkle baking soda on the
linkage all the time. Not a problem with the Optima. If $150 makes for one
less place an old car wants to rust, it's money well spent.

I've never used a Black Panther battery, but they're supposedly lighter.
They're not as available as Optima around here, though.

Plus, for restored cars there's no
battery fumes to screw up your restoration efforts.
