Porter Cable makes a great compact shop vac that will attatch to its line
of wood working/sanding tools. it can be switch activated, or if you plug
the tool into it it is tool activated. it has a two stage filter that
eliminates dust output like most 'shop vacs'. its about $200 maybe $225.
since you didnt say what kind of stuff you vacuum up, if its wood or
general hobby stuff, or the inside of the car, or bodywork dust/paint dust,
etc this would be of interest to you. it works really well with the P/C
random orbital sander. im not sure that given the price i would use it to
suck up the muck from my basement... but you could get a cheap wet/dry one
for that. its pretty quiet as vacuums in its power range go too...

let me know if you live near florida/alabama/miss because i know a Porter
Cable dealer who would beat anyone's price on it.
