Mark,

The vortec heads will fit on any 350 block but they do require a different
intake manifold and in stock form are only good for about .450" lift at the
valve or else the springs and retainers bind. They can be machined for higher
lifts and some aftermarket guys are doing this before they sell them. Just be
aware that just changing springs does not solve the problem, the tops of the
valve guides need to be machined down also to keep the retainers from hitting
them. Two good websites for information are:

Look in the performance section, NOTE: they also have an old truck section

Good luck.

I'm still trying to find the right engine for my '50, but I know that I
want a 350 and I'd like it to have Vortec heads. I've recently come
across a set of freshly machined Vortec heads from a 1988 Chevy truck.
My question is, if I get the heads before I get a block, is there
anything that I have to be aware of or watch out for? Are there certain
years to which I will have to limit my search, or will the Vortec heads
fit on any 350 block? Also, are there any issues regarding intake
manifolds for these heads?

Thanks for the guidance,
Mark
