Robert,
Heidts makes excellent quality kits. I have one on my pro-street 41
Chevy coupe and just took delivery of another for my '53 3100. They can be
installed in one afternoon, provided you can weld and have already removed the
old suspension and cleaned the frame. I know there are people who will argue
with me on this but for my money Heidts is the only manufacturer who has
actually taken the time to properly engineer their kits to exactly duplicate
Ford's designed geometry. This is very important to eliminate a bunch of
unwanted side effects like bump steer.
The 11" disks are a very good option for anyone who is going to run a
V-8. The stock 9" rotors are OK (and I have them on my coupe) but if you intend
to use them you should, in my humble opinion, opt for rear disks as well. If
you're going to run rear drums I would go for the 11" option simply because, as
everyone knows, the front brakes do more than 50% of the braking in most
vehicles. I should mention that there are cheaper places to get the 11" disk
kits though. Speedway has complete kits, rotors, calipers, brackets, etc. in
their catalog for around $240.

I'm going to order the MII IFS for my niece's 57 3100 this week and have a
couple of questions ya'll might be able to help me with.
First, I like the looks and price of Heidt's Economy MII setup. They have
just recenly developed this kit for TF trucks. Has any one had any
experience with Heidt's units good or bad?
Second, the tech guy I talked to at Heidt's strongly recommended upgrading
to 11" rotors. I know not to cut corners on the brake system, but are the
11" rotors that neccessary or is it just a way for Heidt's to get another
$95 out of me?
Third, many months back there was a discussion on the list about what
coating to use on brake rotors to protect/seal the surface until time to put
the truck on the road. Did we ever come up with anything on that? It may
be as mush as 2 years before this truck hits the streets and I don't want
the rotors to rust up in the mean time.
