The jaguar shop where I live recently charged me nearly 500 to adjust the
valves on the 4.2L from my '82 XJ6...and that was with me bringing the head to
him in the back of my truck. This is basically the same engine as yours.
About 10 yrs ago another Jaguar shop quoted me $6K to do the entire job. The
guy broke it down to 2K for labor, 2K for parts, and 2K for machine shop work.
I ended up doing it myself over a 6 month period.
To answer your question, I think you will pay at least 4K to re ring what you
spoke of. But then again, how is the crank, bearings, seals, dizzy and all the
other peripherals that are hard to get to except when the engine is out? Your
bill could easily double or triple if you want someone to do it all.
