I believe that the proper method is to fit the cable through the hole in the
brass fitting, then bend the strands back ( U shaped ) into the hole again.
Silver solder the cable to the brass fitting, The soldier is not intended to
 hold the cable to the brass fitting but to simply keep it from falling off.
 The hole in the brass fitting is tapered  thus the cable becomes a press
fit  since there is not enough room for the doubled up strands of the cable
to fit through the hole at the same time.
Its' a chore to do it  but its the only method I have found that will hold
up .
