A charged battery that sits, will sulfate the plates.. That is...
the chemicals in the battery liquid will slowly drop
out of suspension and attach themselves to the plates
of the battery. Over time, this reduces the capacity
of the battery. A battery at rest (an hour or two of no
charge being applied) voltage level can identify it's
'capacity' capabilities as follows
  volts specific gravity capacity
12.6-12.8V 1.265 100%
12.4-12.6V 1.225 75-100%
12.2-12.4V 1.190 50-75%
12.0-12.2V 1.155 25-50%
11.7-12.0V 1.120 0-25%

Your situation sound like at least one cell is starting to
loose it's 'capacity' capabilities.
