A ballast resistor is in the ignition system. It has no affect on the ignition
light (why it's called ignition, I have no idea).

You have a bad diode in the internal voltage regulator in the alternator.  Not
sure why they go bad, but it is not a critical problem.  Replace it at  your
leisure.
