I'd pull the fuel line from carb and place in gas can then turn key to 
on position (not start) and let it pump a little and see if it flows 
well. This sounds like how one of mine behaved with an intermitant fuel 
pump. Good luck, David Deutsch By the way, the 77 I have for sale 
doesn't do this.
