Couldn't find the Williams book nor the The Rover V8 book at the Vancouver
store mentioned in a previous posting. However both Hardcastle books and the
Williams books are available at http://amazon.com.

You may be thinking about The Rover V8 Engine by David Hardcastle. He also
wrote Tuning Rover V8 Engines. Then, of course, there is How to Give Your
Mgb V8 Power by Roger Williams.
