The thing you have to remember with primers is that most of them 
actually absorb water, so you won't really be doing much good keeping 
the parts primed. This is why a primed car rusts.

You could coat the parts with a light oil and wrap them in plastic, 
but obviously then you have to make sure you get all the oil off 
before you prime and paint.

That's all I can think of...unless you pick a paint system whose 
primer doesn't absorb water...

I haven't used any of their products yet, but I plan on using their 
POR black paint/treatment stuff for my project.
