ATF in Rover transmission

Hi there,

I'm about to re-assemble my Rover SD1 5 speed transmission. According to the
book (yes, the dreaded Book) you get smoother gear changes on this
transmission when using automatic transmission fluid. Now I hear from a
totally unreliable source that certain kinds of ATF may eat up your oil
seals... Any suggestions on what kind of oil to use? Has anyone tried this?
