After working as a mechanic in Madison, WI, USA, and seeing the devestating
effects of road salt on cars, I always wait until all the snow has
melted and a substantial rainstorm has washed the salt off the roads.
Around here, snow banks often take a long time to melt and all
that run off is salt water.
Typically it is late April to early May before I consider the roads
to be free enough of salt for me to take the MG out. This year there
is also the fact that the engine block and new pistons are currently
at the machine shop.
