When I restored my TD a few years ago, I too thought it would be easier to
buy reproduction parts from Moss, rather than go through all the hassles of
getting the original (pitted and dented) parts rechromed. Not to mention the
price! The Moss catalog made it a "no-brainer". Boy, was I wrong!.. . I put
a
reproduction, Moss handle on my wiper switch. The first time I was in the
rain, at the GOF in Stratford, I turned the handle and it broke off. The
bonnet
handles pitted from the humidity before I even drove the car, as did the side
curtain plates and the hub caps. I fortunately retained all my old parts,
took them to a plater in Milford CT., waited about four months and finally had
good looking and servicable parts. In the long run, I would have saved money
by going to the plater instead of being seduced by the catalog. I have since
bought a couple of chrome reproductions from Abingdon Spares, and they see to
be of much better quality. So, if you can afford to do it, and you have the
time to wait for the work to be done, go original, otherwise head for New
Hampshire. My $.02 worth.
