Torsen differentials use worm gears to link the axel gears . It's based on the fact that the friction of worm gears driven in the wrong direction goes up as the torque increases . At one time and maybe still most of NASCAR , Indy and F1 used Gleasman Torsen differentials . They were around a long time before they found they were good for race cars .
