The brothers were paid a weekly wage by the sponsors to set the record
(not much either). When the record was set the job was done along with
the sponsorships: fuel, oil, tires etc.. On the way home they discussed
what they going to do next for work as they no longer had jobs. The
engines were on loan from Chrysler and were returned to the local
distributor, Keith Black. All this is common knowledge.

If this were today, the first thing they could have done was purchase
million dollar homes, new pick-ups and trailers and then demand for more
money. But is was the 60's.....

Subject: Golden Rod

Sparky's guestimate was that
Chrysler had fronted the engines and they did not want to take a chance
on
something happening to take away the blush of glory that come with
breaking
the record.

Anybody know the real story?
