Another way to do dimpling that can work far from the edge of a sheet is
to drill a rivet-diameter hole in a small block of steel and then 100
degree countersink the hole to make a die. Then take a big center punch
and turn a 100 degree taper on the end. Line up the hole with the die
and then use the punch to dimple the sheet.
It's simpler and easier if you can find a few flathead steel rivets of
the same diameter; use one of the rivets as a punch by dropping it into
the hole in the aluminum and letting the shank drop into the hole in the
die. Then whack it hard with a hammer-- voila, a countersunk hole. After
a few holes simply discard that rivet and use a new one.
This works best for flat panels.

The vice grip design might work if it was on the long jawed grips as I
need
to be able to reach in a good 12 to 16" to get to all the places I need
to
put the rivets. Maybe the glue is the ticket. JB weld doesn't seem to
work
all the well.
