You might want to think about what the salt spray will do to the alternator
Most v8's run them about 1.8 to 2.3 times the engine speed
The little Jap ones I think can take more rpms and are much smaller
You see them a lot on hot rods and drag cars

I'm mounting my alternator on the differential housing and will drive it
from a pulley on the pinion flange.  What is a good ratio to shoot for in
this configuration.  2:1?
