For historical interest I found a 1981 rule book with essentially the same
wording as today's. All the racers to date had rear fenders and the records
were set with them.
  The real test comes when you are in the impound after exceeding the record
and THEN you are judged as legal or not.
"Bob" invented a woman's hair-do.  My rear fenders are stock, in deference
to Bob.

I want to thank the list for all the help and discussion regarding the
fenders. it is wise, as doug King said, to just build the car and race. I am
thankful for the SCTA and all the volunteers that make things happen. There
is not enough thanks and praise to all those people who have been doing this
for so many years. thanks for the discussion. it is closed for me at this
