FYI,

For those of you who have not seen what triggered my e-mail on this subject:

The use of Data Acquistion is discussed in a very well written column by
G.H. Sharp in his "Board Report" column on page 5 of the April 2000 issue
of SportsCar.

G.H. is asking for our opinions to be sent to the Solo Board by letter or
e-mail <Solo@scca.org> stating our views on this topic.

Since G.H. has used a G-Analyst for many years in Stock, I know that he is
well aware of what this level of data acquisition can and cannot do for a
driver at a major event. Rumor has it that Guy Ankeny, also a Solo Board
member, used "real heavy duty data acquisition" in his CM car, at least
during testing. I'm sure at least some of the other Solo Board members have
used various level of DA. As a result, I'm sure that they have a good
understanding of the topic.

I suspect that the Board is simply responding to suggestions/requests from
"some" of the membership and wants to find out what the "majority" thinks
and wants on this subject. What better way than to ASK US in an almost full
page column with a clear headline at the front of OUR official magazine?
Nobody can say the question was buried somewhere in Fastrack :-)

I also suspect that, depending on what the membership says it wants, the
approach could be different for different classes. My current interest is
Mod so that is what my response focused on.

I sent my e-mail and copied the CM and GEEZ lists in order to alert you to
the issue and to air my personal view.

Send those letters or e-mails <Solo@scca.org> with your opinion and
reasons to support the opinion. :-)
