I had .005-.006 on my engine with steel gasket plus copper ring. I used orange heat resistant silicone sparingly around the perimeter, water and oil areas. Zero issues. I trimmed the gasket clear from the combustion chamber. The gasket surface was minimal around the intake and only one groove stamping was still in there for the copper ring to be set. Again, zero issues after 19 weekends and 6,000 miles.
