John,

VARA had a section in the rule book in the past that prohibited swing axle
type early Volks. It had been the only car rolled for several years (this
must have been almost 10 years ago now at the old Pams Springs airport
circuit). I do believe they are still very selective about any VW entries.
The last one i knew of was a Pan American beetle with Porsche engine with
race history that ran at Tustin about three years ago.. Have not seen the
Ghia in some time...but don't know if it was owner or VARA that has kept it
off track.

For what it's worth.
