Yes I have. His chest got caved in, broke his back. A collapsing column
would have no doubt helped a lot. With the period lap belt you can hit the
steering column quite hard.

steering column, in a collision that wouldn't have otherwise killed or
seriously injured them anyway? If the column collapses, next solid object
is the windshield and dash, even with a lap belt.
