Well I tested the voltage around the coil and found that the numbers were too
high. Found a used replacement voltage regulator from a donor roadster
harness. It is electronic. Now the voltage coming to ballast resistor is
14.0 to 14.5 volts but it is reduced to approximately 12 V at positive post on
coil and ~ 9.5 to 10 V at negative post. Roadster is running much better now.
Looks like I was getting too much voltage to the points. I never would have
thought that was the problem. I was being too tough on the Solex carbs. They
are running well enough for me to put more miles on it. Ran it yesterday for
20 miles. Getting very cold here in Calgary. Today it is snowing. Man!!!!
Tried to get a better ground on the instument guage's voltage regulator under
the dash but it made no difference. Looks like I will have to buy one
somewhere. Did someone on the list say it could be built/replaced
easily(specs). I have a brother who is asking. Thanks to everyone for the
great suggestions. Larry (freezing in Calgary).
