Does anyone have any links to information regarding properly setting the
bearing preload or shimming the pinion gear?
I've recently swapped from a 3.9 to a 3.7 and and am getting some gear whine
at 3-3.5K and during acceleration.
I'm running mobil1 75w90 w/ lucas lube.

  Paul,

BTDT, The only fun part is the bearing preload. I'd pull the 3.7 carrier,
put a new seal in it, sort the bearing preload and put it in your current
axle.
No need to swap the entire axle. You could just change the seal in the car
but then you could not check the preload and run the risk of burning it
up.
