Hi Toby,
The CA18DE is a nice little engine but hardly exciting.
The better version is the CA18DET which can be made to really honk.
Not sure what imports you have access to but here in Oz they are reasonably
plentiful.

what's the collective wisdom about the CA18DE engine?  It looks like it has
a decent DOHC head, but with small, long- stroke pistons.  It also seems to
be in plentiful supply in the junkyards, which cuts both ways.
How about transmissions for it?
