According to page 20 of my original Nissan service manual for the U20 engine
(P/N 99999-20010) the exhausts are to be set at ".3 mm (0.0079 in.)" and the
intakes at ".2 mm (0.0118 in.)". But you will notice that the conversion to
inches is backwards. That is, .3 mm actually equals 0.0118 in. and .2 actually
equals 0.0079 inches. Hmmm.... this is probably where the confusion between
Clymer and 311s.org originates. However, on the general information page of
the same manual (page 3) is lists the clearance as Intake 0.2mm (0.007874") and
Exhaust 0.3mm (0.011811"). This is probably the correct setting since the
exhaust components expand more due to heat and need more clearance.
PS. The picture also shows the clearance being checked between the cam and
the rocker, instead of at the valve stem.
