Goodwood Flagging Instructions

Then Perry McCarthy's idea of a drivers' briefing, which broadly went as
follows:

"The Yellow Flag: Yellow is the colour of cowardice. The marshals are
calling you a coward. Keep your foot in, and press on.

The Red Flag: Red means anger. The marshals feel you are not being
aggressive enough. Keep your foot in, and press on.

The White Flag: The white flag is the international sign for surrender. The
marshals think you have given up. Keep your foot in, press on, and show
them!

The Blue Flag: This means nothing. The marshals will wave it when they have
nothing else to wave. Ignore it, keep your foot in, and press on
regardless.

The Chequered Flag: This means you have SLIGHTLY LESS than one more lap to
overtake the guy in front. Keep your foot in, and press on.

Finally, to repeat Lord March's comments, please remember there are some
expensive cars out there. This is meant to be a fun weekend, not a Grand
Prix. If you are not certain there is a gap, don't go for it.

And I'm looking at our German guests now; we don't want to see any antics
like your Mr. Schumacher. Just remember - the Spitfire you just saw isn't
just there for show..."

The poor old Clerk of Course wasn't quite sure how to follow that.
