Hi ,( sorry Matt that you didn't get this the first time , I forgot to take off
the trailer )

All L-series engines were mounted at an approximately 15 degree angle the right
 ,thus the
problem when installed in a Roadster .If I understand your description " the 5
speed is made to mate up to
the engine while the engine is straight up ." Actually means that the shifter
would be pointed at the driver .(
because you have a L tranny ) The Naps Z engines ( Basically a cross flow
headed L motor ) is mounted "straight
up " .The tranny from a 720 pickup or 200 sx should get you going ( or a
conversion of it's bell
housing to your 5 speed ).Since you may not have the Technical knowledge ,
leave that to an expert ) .I
have seen this work the opposite for our customers .They have a L motor Z and
got the tranny from the "bone
yard" , and were told it was a Z 5 speed ( Was a naps 5 speed ) ,so they
attempt to put it in .When they
see that the shifter is pointed at the passenger ,they know something is up !
:-) .Good Luck .

When I got the engine it had a 4 speed tranny with it but I wanted a 5 speed so
I bought one at
the local salvage yard. The original 4 speed was mated up to the engine at an
angle. The only
problem is that the 5 speed is made to mate up to the engine while the engine
is straight up and
the engine is mounted to the frame at an angle. Because of that the shift
lever is coming out
of the transmision tunnel at an angle and the transmision mount is at a weird
angle.

at the angle I
need without swapping bellhousings?
