In regards to a problem with the 1600 thermostat/fill housing:

If you don't need show quality I'd be tempted to try JB Weld (epoxy).
You can also have a radiator shop add a fill spout to the radiator
ala the 2000's, and then use a standard 411 (I think) or 240 elbow
on the head.
