It is really best to do this out doors if at all possible.  A small amount
of liquid spilled gas quickly turns into fumes and then finds an ignition
source in your garage (water heater for example).  Then your day and
possibly your life turns to shit quickly.

  Just make sure you run it down to
empty, or better yet, drain the tank.   Things get real challenging if you
leave gas in the tank.  And take the rubber "boot" off of the filler tube
first!  Good luck.
