Hi all,

Quick update on my Datsun exploits.
The year's had some changes. Bruce Campbell - ex pres. of the Datsun Sports
Roadster Club (Victoria) has left us all to go live in Eden, on the south
coast of New South Wales. The place is well named, by all accounts, so our
loss is definitely his gain. Apparently there's some awesome roads out that
way, so it'll probably be worth the 6-7 hour drive to go visit, sometime.

Anyway, before he went, the club was well represented at the "Picnic at
Hanging Rock" - a get together of car clubs held each year in March. Over
1500 cars of all sorts of varieties. One car there was having it's 80th
birthday - nice to be driving one of the younger exhibits for a change! In
all, we had 10 roadsters, an immaculate 180B SSS, an R31 Skyline GTS-R, and
an AWESOME 1967 Bluebird SSS. This little car was quick - normally fast
enough with an R16, this baby has been stroked and breathed on by local guru
Lou Mondello. With only 4 gears it didn't have the legs of a 2 litre
roadster, but boy was it quick in the twisty stuff! And a great cruise home
via some of our favourite roads soon made that clear. What a buzz to be in
(quick) convoy with so many other roadsters.

Anyway, since then, a few little runs have happened - but I wasn't able to
make it up to Queensland for the Nationals, unfortunately. Was hoping to,
and it looks like they had a great time. I did get to Historic Winton - a
weekend of historic racing with everything from pre-war cars and bikes to
touring car racers from the mid 70's. Loads of fun, but no roadsters on the
track. Did get to see some very quick 510's in action, and a particularly
fast 240Z from South Australia. Nice to see him show a Porsche how it's
REALLY done!

I've probably rambled enough. I've got some fantastic photos, but still
need to scan them. Oh, anyone have any ideas on where to post them?

Cheers,

Steve
